Silver FAQs
How do I determine the quality of the metal used?
Precious metals’ purity will be measured in carats. Eighteen carats
is the top quality for white and yellow gold. Platinum’s purity
will be measured in a percentage. Look for eighty five to ninety five
percent for platinum.
Will she prefer white or yellow gold?
This is truly her personal preference, but white gold is now more popular.
Yellow gold is traditional and especially compliments darker skin tones.
White gold is more contemporary and tends to flatter all skin tones.
A good idea is to check her jewelry box and take note of what she has
the most of.
What is the difference between precious and semi-precious gemstones?
Precious gemstones are usually greater in price and rarity. These include
stones such as the diamond, emerald, ruby, sapphire and the natural
pearl. Semiprecious stones are not as rare and usually cost a little
less. These are stones like amethyst, turquoise, topaz and peridot.
Besides rarity there is little difference in the quality of the cut
or the clarity of the stone. Essentially, you get what you pay for.
