Jade Jewelry
Jade is most commonly known for its rich green tones but
is also available in whiter tones, some with even an almost pink or
orange hue. Jade was a popular material in ancient Asia and is still
widely used there today.
Jade jewelry can be carved pieces. Carving of jade allows for detailed
pieces with intricate designs. Jade is just a little harder than quartz.
Jade can be separated into two categories: nephrite- which is whiter
in color, and jadeite- which are the rich toned pieces that range in
colors. Jadeite is rarer and is found in only twelve areas in the world.
Jade can be enhanced by certain techniques which include polishing,
staining or dying and injecting with a polymer resin. These enhancements
are done to bring out the luster and tonal qualities of the stone. Red
jade can also be enhanced by the use of heat.
